Event Banner Design: What Size and What File Type

Standard banner sizes

• Roll-up banner (rollup) — 85 x 200 cm (standard)
• X-banner / pop-up — 60 x 160 cm
• Table banner — 30 x 42 cm (A3) or 60 x 30 cm (landscape)
• Backdrop — varies; measure the frame first

File format

For large banners: PDF is the safest format.

For very large files: JPG at 150 DPI is often acceptable.

Bleed

Banners are often displayed in frames. Add 2-3 cm bleed on all sides.

Resolution

For roll-up banners viewed from 2-3 metres: 150 DPI is sufficient. For close-up banners: 300 DPI.

Common mistakes

• Sending a screen-resolution file (72 DPI) — results in blurry output
• Not adding bleed — visible white edges after trimming
• Specifying the wrong size — measure before designing
